The Path, Music Quiz, Big In Japan, Sink the Pink! A Week in Concrete!

You’ve probably seen the pictures already, and you’re probably wildly jealous if you missed it …

The week started off with brand new night, The Path, which was a night of hip hop and live music. Put together by Sefe from Shoreditch House, the night saw Sophie Delila performing an intimate, crowd-pleasing acoustic set with just an acoustic guitar and a tambourine (a set that finished with her persuading everyone in Concrete to sing along with her). Sophie was followed by Alonestar, who, with the help of the backing band, had everyone clapping, dancing, swaying and shaking. The highlight of the night was headliner Metis, who gave a show-stopping performance with special guest Chromatics (all the way over from Trinidad!), and DJ Richie Fargas closed the night with a soul-shakingly amazing DJ set, a short clip of which you can see below:

Thursday was our regular night Sounds Familiar Music Quiz which brought in a record 14 quiz teams. MC Quizzical was down again, boomboxing and rapping his way through the rounds and the 1st place team snagged a tidy £60 bar tab to spend at the next quiz. KA-CHING!

Friday was Dan Spinney’s night Big In Japan, which is always a massive hit in Concrete; who doesn’t love 80’s pop on a Friday night? I always love when people make full use of the stage and the flashing stage lights, and it always seems to be Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” that gets heels pounding on the platform.

Saturday night was Sink The Pink’s THE DANCE OFF and these guys know how to party and dance in ways you could only ever dream of! If the pictures of hot guys in their underwear and drag queens with moustaches haven’t already given you an idea of the night, let me break it down. The night started off with DJs Bright Light Bright Light playing a mix of your favourite 80’s, 90’s and 00’s hands-in-the-air, shoulder shaking jams, followed by a performance by the Sink the Pink Dancers to Kylie Minogue’s latest hit “All The Lovers”. BLBL started up DJing again, and our favourite drag queen Ma Butcher proceeded to prance (slash stumble) around the stage, with his/her dress halfway down his/her torso along with scantily clad boys. The Breakfast Club (dance troupe) gave a stage-pounding performance and after that, it seemed Concrete descended into all sorts of mayhem. Broken heels, lost eyelashes, glitter EVERYWHERE. As usual, the boys didn’t disappoint. Please find below a video of Madame singing along to Whitney Houston and a clip of The Breakfast Club’s dance routine. The next Sink the Pink night is on Saturday August 28th and it’s their Big Birthday Bash. If this one was crazy, wait till the next one.

See you soon!
